CLUB NEWS REPORTS Home Counties league gala at Oxford 21st January 2006 Banbury, supported by swimmers from Kidlington, opened their league season with an impressive fourth place in the Home Counties league gala at Oxford. Banbury were just a few points away from third place most of the evening in a close competition against Oxford, Luton, Witney and Aylesbury. Top performers of the evening were under 15 boys. Myles Taylor and George Brear both convincing won the 100m butterfly and 100m breaststroke respectively, whilst the Medley relay team and freestyle relay team excelled itself with strong victories. Jamie Scott set a new PB in the 100m backstroke and not to miss out Sophie Rooney set a new PB for the under 15 girls team in the 100m backstroke with a time of 1.16.81. In the youngest age group, under 11, Jonathan Witchard came home 2nd in the 50m butterfly with a new PB of 41.32 and Daniel Farrington also claimed a new PB in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 54.06. The under 13’s had a consistent run of 3rd places through most of their events. Elliot Franklin and Matthew Measures setting new PB’s in their respective events. The open age group also swam hard to achieve a string of 2nd and 3rd places. Adam Brear and Jonathan Penny set new PB’s in the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke respectively. Brear going under 60 seconds in the freestyle event. Jade Calvert set a new PB in the ladies 100m freestyle and was part of the Ladies Open age group medley relay team which achieved 2nd place.
